In the first session of this series, we looked at the human, legal and financial barriers to realization of the full potential of VDC in the overall design and construction industry. In this second session we will take a deeper dive into issues in construction specifically – the challenges and the opportunities to address them.
Rick del Monte (President of BIMForum and Principal at R&B Architecture, www.rnbarchitecture.com) will moderate a discussion with Brian Skripac (DBIA, www.dbia.org) and Alex Belkofer (McCarthy, www.mccarthy.com) about the implementation of the VDC process on large projects. What are the current roles of the architect, builder, and specialty contractors in the process? The panel will focus on the challenges the industry is facing, and how it can move towards a more effective use of technology. Finally we will discuss, what emerging technologies are out there, and how they might disrupt current practices.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the architect’s role and responsibility in the construction phase of the VDC process.
- Identify the potential sources of difficulty and conflict, and strategies to address them.
- Understand emerging technologies and how they could alter existing roles and responsibilities.
- Understand the human, legal, and financial barriers in our industry, inherent in this process.
