BIMForum joins buildingSMART International

The BIMForum is pleased to announce that it has joined buildingSMART International to become its new Chapter in the United States of America. BuildingSMART is a neutral not-for-profit standards and implementation body,established in 1995. It is responsible for the Industry Foundation Class data standard and associated standards which are today followed in numerous software products.The BIMForum has become a leading voice for practical implementation of Building Information Modelling in the US through advocacy of best practices in the design and construction professions. The BIMForum’s credibility among stakeholders will enable buildingSMART to accelerate adoption and development of open digital processes in the built asset industry in the USA while improving global alignment.

This future vision builds upon the traction the BIMForum has made in uniting practitioners from the major sectors of the US AEC market around the promise BIM holds for accelerating Lean, Sustainable and truly integrated workflows to the design and construction industry. A promise that can only be fully realized by adopting seamless, standardized exchanges of building information. Together, the BIMForum and buildingSMART will work to establish and promote open and interoperable standards that are responsive to the needs of the industry.
